Reina Pepiada- Arepas
Ingredients
Arepa
Precooked corn flour - 1 cup/ more or less
Water- 1 1/2 cup
Salt to taste
Reina Pepiada
Chicken- 250 gm
Salt 1 tsp
Pepper 1/4 tsp
Garlic powder 1 tsp
Onion powder 1 tsp
Cream cheese 2 tbsp
Avocado 1 medium
Instructions
- In a bowl, pour water and add salt. Once the salt has completely dissolved, add the corn flour slowly, mixing it well before adding more flour. It is important to always add the flour to the water to control how much is added to it. The dough is ready when it is easy to make a ball and it feels moist.
- Combine all the spices in a mortar and grind them until you have a powder. Season the chicken with the powder.
- Cook the chicken in a medium pan. Ensure the pan is hot before adding oil and adding the chicken.
- Once the chicken is fully cooked, set it aside to cool down.
- In a bowl, combine the cream cheese with the avocado, smash them together, and add a bit of salt and garlic powder.
- Shred the chicken and add it to the cream cheese and avocado mixture. Mix well, and set aside.
- Make balls with the dough and shape them like burger buns.
- In a pan, add some oil and cook the arepas for 8 minutes on one side and another 5 on the other.
- Once the arepas are ready, wait until they are cool enough to handle, slide them in half, and fill them with the chicken and avocado mixture.
